What Specialty Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for fulfilling customer requests, resolving customers' technical problems, and responding to customers' questions through on-site and telephone contact.
Essential Functions
The IV Technician provides ancillary / technical assistance in providing chemotherapy and other medication to patients. Duties include, but are not limited to, posting and filling orders, distributing and delivering medications, and answering phones.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
· Accurately prepares and / or responds to medication order, in accordance with designated procedures.
· Effectively processes all physician dispensing prescriptions and processes adjustments accordingly.
· Prepares IV solutions accurately.
· Accurately calculates and prepares additive formulations for chemotherapy.
· Accurately maintains appropriate stock levels for solutions, medications and supplies used in the IV room and individual work areas.
· Effectively performs work related telephone activities appropriately and in a timely manner. Resolves problems within scope of responsibility and routes calls to appropriate person(s) as needed.
· Effectively maintains necessary equipment in opening and closing mixing area of practice.
· Accurately performs computer functions as related to charging, crediting and debiting on distributed medications. Uses functions to verify orders and dosing of medications. (Flow sheet, MD orders, orders RX, treatment, etc.)
· Effectively delivers intravenous additive solutions and controlled substances to appropriate nursing units in a timely manner.
· Demonstrates proper infection control procedures, prior to IV preparation.
· Demonstrates proper use of transfer devices, ambulatory pumps and tubing.
· Ensures chemotherapy waste is properly discarded and logged.
· Properly reconstitutes drugs with appropriate solution and volume.
· Effectively inspects final product for incompatibilities, cores and particulate matter.
· Always checks label prior to and after preparing medications to ensure correct labeling and preparation of product.
Qualifications
1-2 years of experience, preferred
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience, preferred
Active Pharmacy Technician License in California
Occasional travel to other locations with-in San Diego County

Anticipated hourly range: $21.00 per hour - $28.80 per hour
